On November 23, 1889, an inventor by the name of Louis Glass installed a coin-driven music machine in a corner of the Palais Royale Saloon in San Francisco and the jukebox was born! Today, we celebrate the 135th anniversary of the jukebox by counting down the top R&B songs played on jukeboxes across the United States during this week in 1949. For those keeping count, 1949 was both the 60th anniversary of the jukebox and one of the most important years of the jump blues era.
