Open The Door Richard Louis Jordan & The Tympany Five Decca Records 1947

Jordan’s 28th record to hit the Billboard R&B Chart, “Open the Door Richard”
charted for six weeks, peaking at number two in the spring of 1947.
Put to music by Jack McVea in 1946, “Open the Door Richard” began life as

a vaudeville routine made famous by comedian Dusty Fletcher and a live
recording of his act was one of five versions to chart in 1947, the others
being recordings by Jack McVea, Count Basie, The Three Flames, and
– of course – Louis Jordan and the Tympany Five.
