WRFG Route 66 Playlist and Podcast January 15, 2023

WRFG’s Route 66 celebrates a time when blues, jazz, and R&B blended
together, often in the same song. The focus is on the the Jump Blues and
Early Rock’n’Roll Eras (1940s to mid-1950s) and on how those styles
and artists have evolved over the years.

8:00 A.M. FEATURE: A JUMPIN’ TRIBUTE TO JEFF BECK
Today, we pay tribute to Jeff Beck. The British blues guitar legend died Tuesday,
January 10, 2023 after a brief illness. Geoffrey Arnold Beck was born in Wallington, England on June 24, 1944. According to Wikipedia, “Beck cited Les Paul as the
first electric guitar player who impressed him. Beck said that he first heard an
electric guitar when he was six-years-old and heard Paul playing ‘How High the Moon’
on the radio. He asked his mother what it was. After she replied it was an electric
guitar and was all tricks, he said, ‘That’s for me’.” In 2010, Beck hosted a concert both
to honor Les Paul and to celebrate his roots in jump blues and early rock and roll.
