This song was Louis Jordan’s first hit as a solo artist. It was originally an instrumental called “We Gonna Move to the Outskirts of Town” written and recorded by Casey Bill in 1936. Jordan added the words and changed the name slightly… for his version for his Decca Records recording which was number three for three weeks in October of 1942 on Billboard Magazine’s new R&B chart “The Harlem Hit Parade.”
